Bells
The present bells are eight in number, restored, added
to, and rehung in 1928. Previous to this the tower contained six bells
cast by T Mears of London in 1826 (tenor 12 cwt). The earliest records
refer to three bells in 1553.
In 1824 the spire of wood faced with lead was removed and the walls
heightened. This enabled to tower to increase the number of bells
from three to five and in 1928 a full peal of eight was installed.
The ringers are a committed band who support the Sunday
morning services. They can ring for weddings and occasional celebratory
services. They practice on Thursday evenings.
