The Church

St Michael and All Angels is one of the finest churches in the country (Grade 1 Listed) dating back to Norman times. It is a magnificent structure celebrating many centuries of Christian presence within Houghton, whilst continuing to provide a spiritual oasis at the heart of the community.

People in the community love the church building and use it a lot for baptisms, weddings and funerals, as well as for special celebrations and themed services that we hold during the year. There is a Group called ‘The Friends of Houghton Parish Church’ that is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the church building as a community resource.

Sadly the church cannot be left open all the time, but if you would like to arrange a visit, please contact the Church Office on tel: 0191 512 1769.
