Liturgical
Choir
St Michael’s
has a great history of choral music and the liturgical choir has always
played a strong part in church life. In addition to leading the worship
for most services on Sunday, the choir also performs pieces for Festival
Services such as the Christmas Carol Service and the Houghton Feast
Evensong.
"A highlight
of 2005 so far has been a scratch performance of Stainer’s Crucifixion
during Lent, when choirs from the area joined together at St Michael’s
with just one rehearsal on the day. The Carol Service at Christmas
was also greatly appreciated, with an exceptional turn out and new
style of programme.
We take an
active part in the Royal School of Church Music events throughout
the year and once a year we join with other choirs of the Diocese
in Durham Cathedral for Choral Evensong.
New recruits
are always welcome, particularly young people who often benefit from
the musical training."
