Funerals

AT
YOUR SERVICE
The re-ordering of the church will present many challenges, not least
in the provision of weekly services. Contrary to the impression of
a number of funeral directors, the church has not closed and services
will continue. It is planned that the 8.30am service on Sundays, together
with the 6.00pm and Thursday morning service will be held in the
Chancel, while the main 10.00am Eucharist will be held in St. Michael’s
Hall, Kepier. This will present the opportunity to worship in a different
environment and we hope will be a rewarding experience
Funerals will be taken in the Lyons Parish Church, St. Andrew’s
Chilton Moor, and St. Matthews Newbottle. The Methodist Church have
also very generously made available their church in Mautland Street.
Even if another church is used, the funerals will be conducted by
the St. Michael and All Angels clergy.A funeral service marks the
close of a human life on earth and provides an opportunity to express
both grief and thanks, commending our loved one to God’s safekeeping.
To arrange a funeral,
the first point of contact is your chosen funeral director who will
get in touch with a member of the church staff on your behalf. A church
minister will then contact you to arrange a visit in order to discuss
the service and to offer support. Should you wish to speak to anyone
concerning a funeral at St. Michaels your initial point of contact
would be Bill Harkness tel: 584 1163
Helping those
who are nearing their death and those who have lost family or friends
is a very important part of the ministry of St Michael and All Angels.
The clergy and other members of the staff team are trained and have
a lot of experience in helping those who are grieving, so please get
in contact.

Book of
Remembrance
For some of us,
the opportunity to record the name and a suitable dedication within
a Book of Remembrance can help. Our Book of Remembrance has a page
for each day. Entries can be simple and brief, or more elaborate with
a suitable emblem. The Book is updated once or twice a year by a professional
calligrapher. Arrangements can be made for the Book to be viewed on
each anniversary.
A sheet of sample
emblems, together with suggested inscriptions, is available on request.
Please contact a member of staff in the church office (/Wednesdays:
9.00 – 12.00; Thursdays 11.30 – 4.00), telephone number
512 1769.

Garden
of remembrance
DECIDING how best
to lay to rest the cremated remains of our loved ones can be a difficult
task. Many of us, seeking a funeral service in church, would prefer
interment within the churchyard. With the establishment of a Garden
of Remembrance this is now possible at St Michael’s.
The Garden of
Remembrance is situated near the main entrance of the church in a
sheltered location (see back cover). Each lawn plot measures approximately
18 inches by 18 inches. Although it is not possible to mark individual
plots with a commemorative tablet, cross, flower container or floral
tribute, names of those interred are recorded on a magnificent central
memorial. A Book of Remembrance is maintained within St Michael’s
in which entries can be made.
If you wish to reserve a plot, arrange for the interment of cremated
remains and the inscribing of your loved one’s name on the central
memorial, please contact a member of staff in the church office (Wednesdays:
9.00 – 12.00; Thursdays 11.30 – 4.00), telephone number
512 1769.
