Girl Guides:
"We have
had a busy year, we won the District Shield in a competition where
the girls had to build a model showing any sports event to mark the
Olympics.
In July we went to `5 Alive' camp at Moor House, this was a very big
event with 800 girls camping with lots to do. The weather was not
on our side but did not dampen the girls enthusiasm at all. The next
weekend we had a `sleep over' at the Kepier Hall, this was to cover
the "Lights Camera Action" go for it.
In October after 3 years of trying to get tickets we at last went
to the `Big Gig' which was in Manchester. This is also the month of
Houghton Feast and as usual we took part in the parade and this was
our best float yet, thanks to the parents.
December we had another sleep over, which included a trip to the Centre
for Life, this turned out to be the most hectic sleep over yet. Houghton
hosted the Division Carol Service, which was again a lovely service.
This year most of the girls have gained a challenge badge, the traditions
of Guiding badge and the Fire Fighters badge. We have 2 who have started
their Baden Powell award, as part of this they arranged a Chinese
New Year party and invited Rainbows and Brownies. This was a very
successful night - well done to the girls who organised it.
As you can see we have had a very busy year. The unit is working well
together, we are looking forward to next year with lots more activities
planned.
We would again like to thank the Church for all the support, it
does mean a lot to us to be part of such a happy thriving community."
