For Interest
Whoever you are,
we have something at St. Michael's that will suit you. We have a wide
range of social activities from pram services and a toddler group
for young parents and families to being involved in the cross-denomination
H.O.P.E. group for older people.
As well as events held outside the church, we have services for all
ages groups, our Sunday School runs
along side the 10.00am service every week.
The first Monday of the month the men meet in
Houghton Rugby Club from 8.30pm where new members will always be made
welcome.
Our ladies go out for a meal on the second
Monday evening of the month, venues and times vary, contact the church
office for details and times.
Musically we are well served at St Michael's, we have a choir
which meet for practice every Tuesday evening where you will be made
welcome. Our contemporary music group meet
at irregular intervals and are always pleased to welcome new musicians
and singers. Again due to differing schedules it would be advisable
to contact the church office for further details. We also have a handbell
ringing group who meet on a Monday evening for their own practises
and rehearsals.
We show films in church several times a year, the subjects usually
bearing some relevance to events at the time. This Easter we showed
Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ for example, other such events
will be advertised in the appropriate sections.
A special interest group have taken on the job of rescuing the old
hillside cemetery
in Houghton-le-Spring. The fine folk engaged in this act of love can
be contacted at their website
for details of their many projects, open days and historical research.
Anyone looking for ancestors buried in Houghton would be advised to
check out their burial records.
It would be an unusual month that went by without a social
event for all ages in the Kepier Hall. We recently had our Parish
party and a Mad March Hare's Party is planned for March 11th. Details
of other forthcoming events will appear on the appropriate page.
