Currently we have one member of the clergy team: Rector, The Reverend John Barron. The main responsibility of our clergy is to minister to the spiritual needs of the parish, including leading worship, teaching and helping people to mark major life events.
We are delighted to introduce John D’Silva to St Michael’s on July 5th 2020, he will be with us for the next 3 – 4 years. John moved from his parents home in Rotherham, having just completed his training for ministry at Westcott House in Cambridge. Due to the current restrictions on services, Curates will be ordained later in the year and in the short term John will be licensed as a Lay Minister (with much the same authorisation as a Deacon).
We also have licensed members of our congregation called Readers who teach, lead worship and help with activity groups and pastoral work. Readers can also minister at funerals and help those who are bereaved.
Authorised Pastoral Assistants
Visiting and caring for people, not just in church, but throughout the community is a central part of the life of the church. Some of our members are specially trained to carry out this work supporting the clergy as Authorised Pastoral Assistants.
The Church Wardens share with the Rector the responsibility for the everyday running of St Michael’s.
Parochial Church Council
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is responsible along with The Rector for promoting the mission of the Church – pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical – as well as maintaining the church buildings.
