Mothers’ Union

"We have a thriving Mothers’ Union in Houghton with around 60 members who regularly turn up. In addition to a varied programme of speakers, we have special events like our annual dinner held in January with entertainment and the Harvest Home Supper that we organise in October.

We take a particular interest in the children’s and family activities in church, helping with the Mothering Sunday Service, running the monthly pram service and supporting the Toddlers’ Group. Members help to run the Summer and Christmas Fairs, arrange the flowers in church, participate in the church cleaning rota, serve coffee on Sunday and Thursday mornings, act as sides persons welcoming people to church, help to administer the wine at Communion, take Communion to the sick and housebound, support the Drop-in Centre for asylum seekers and work in the Children’s Society charity shop.

New members are always welcome.”
